"The Silence"

by Koda

Down in the valley
A mist feels the air,
lonely campfires glow.
A shot rips the night
But she thinks she's alright
They won't find her in the snow.

The leaves and the wind
Say a storm's coming in
But she's too tired to feel the cold.
She can't close her eyes
Or the nightmare will arrive
Of when the soldiers crushed her soul:
Raped her, killed her husband, and all her friends
Left her empty
With the silence rushing in.

Baby, she cries.
Oh baby! . . . good-bye.

Her hand wipes her nose
As she shivers in her clothes
And stares up at the stars through air so thin . . . And so, one more endless night begins,
Empty, with the silence rushing in.
